EXPLORE SCANDINAVIAN KITCHEN DESIGNS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON FUNCTION
What do you consider the most important room in your home? Many would be quick to answer “the kitchen”, and we would agree. Your kitchen’s function extends beyond being just a zone in which to prepare food; in many homes, the kitchen is the heart. Given its value, the design of your kitchen is of the utmost importance.
If you are a homeowner considering remodeling or updating your kitchen, you may find yourself faced with many decisions and questions. This is typical when designing such an essential room in a home. You will want your new kitchen to not only reflect your home’s style but also be designed and laid out for function.
Kvik’s expertise in Scandinavian kitchen design can help you select and design the right kitchen to suit your family’s needs while maximizing your available space.
Preliminary Considerations
Before you get down to the nuts and bolts of a modern kitchen design, there are a few key questions you should ask yourself and the other decision-makers in your home. By answering these questions, you’ll be able to lay out the framework for your kitchen properly.
How Much Space Do We Have?
A kitchen design cannot be properly planned without first designating the space you have available. In design, form precedes function.
Which Features and Appliances Do We Want
Appliances are essential elements of any kitchen, particularly if they are built-in. Your enthusiasm for cooking will likely dictate which built-in appliances you need, but there are other kitchen features that need consideration. Modern kitchen designs often include features like a warming drawer, main and auxiliary sinks, microwave drawer, and dishwashing machines. Each of these features requires significant space, so plan carefully.
Who is Using the Kitchen
If you have children at home, consider if you need to design the kitchen around them. Perhaps you need to child-proof some of the drawers and fixtures, or perhaps you need a substantial kitchen island for them to do homework on. Elements such as the placement of drawers and cabinets should also be based on who the kitchen’s primary users are.
Kvik Kitchen Series
With around 30 years of experience in Scandinavian kitchen design, the Kvik design team has curated a series of signature kitchen designs suitable for any household. These designs cover tangible elements of kitchen design, such as the material used to make the drawers, cabinetry, and countertops, and stylistic elements such as color, shape, and personality.
Mano
Deriving its name from the Spanish word for “hand”, the Mano series is designed around touch and feel. Mano kitchens exude effortless style, with sleek, handle-less facings on drawers and cabinetry highlighting the design’s function. By discreetly integrating handles, Mano designs shift the focal point to the contours and lines separating drawers, built-in appliances, and countertops.
Modern kitchen designs help to minimize clutter on countertops by providing ample drawer and cabinet space. With soft close drawers featuring matte and grease-repelling finishings, your Mano design will look organized and clean.
Should it fit your home’s aesthetic, Mano kitchens can also be designed with wood finishings as part of our Mano Sera and Mano Cima collections.
Prato
Prato kitchens are defined by their modern aesthetics and multifunctional designs. They are the kitchen design of choice for the modern family, seamlessly integrating the kitchen into a living space. Prato is the newest design in our collection and is the result of 30 years of kitchen design experience.
Within the Prato range is the Prato X-module, a design collaboration with the award-winning byKATO Danish design (Scandinavian design) duo. X-module kitchens are typically open-plan to facilitate blending the kitchen, living room, and dining room. These open designs create a welcoming space for cooking or socializing.
Ombra
Ombra is perhaps the most unique offering of our modern kitchen designs. Influenced by Denmark’s scenic woodland landscapes and conceptualized with sustainability in mind, Ombra is simply “green” from the inside out.
Each Ombra design is made from certified sustainable wood coated in a forest-green or matte white finish, made from PET-recycled plastic. Stylish oval drawer handles are split between the top and bottom drawers, giving your kitchen’s facings a harmonious, elegant design. They are sanded and smoothed to give users a natural feel akin to a smooth pebble found at a Danish beach.
Ombra offers minimalist and modern kitchen designs with sustainably sourced materials and finishings. Each Ombra kitchen blends seamlessly with other naturally-inspired interior designs.
