What we mean when we say that we will be co2 neutral in 2022
The core of Kvik’s DNA is an ambitious and challenging way of thinking, and this is reflected in the sustainability journey we are on. We have set clear goals. One is that we will be CO2-neutral by 2022, in terms of direct emissions from our own plants, production and transport.
In the first part of our journey towards a better future, we focus on the emissions over which we have full control (Scopes 1 and 2). Once we reach our first goal, we go even further and work with our suppliers to reduce Scope 3 emissions.
CO2 neutral in 2022
We have already reduced our CO2 emissions by 60%, primarily by switching to green energy, LED lighting and by installing a new combustion plant for heating. Together with the initiatives we have planned for the next two years, it will ensure that we reach our goal of being CO2-neutral (Scopes 1 and 2) by 2022.
How do we measure our emissions?
Kvik uses the GHG protocol, an internationally recognized standard for calculating companies’ CO2 emissions, which is used by the world’s largest companies.
The GHG protocol works with three different categories (scopes) of emissions:
Scopes 1
All direct emissions from the company or from activities under the company's control, including fuel, naval vehicles and leaks in air conditioning systems.
Scopes 2
Indirect emissions from purchased electricity, heat or steam.
Scopes 3
Other indirect emissions, such as extraction and production of purchased materials and fuels, transportation-related activities in vehicles not owned or controlled by the company.
